12 Days of Learning Utsav: Turning Lines into Lessons

12 Days of Learning Utsav:  Turning Lines into Lessons

Every new skill begins with curiosity, with a small spark that grows into determination with each passing day. My journey through these 12 days of the Learning Utsav 2025 has been one of constant exploration, challenge, and joy. From the first line I drew in AutoCAD to learning advanced elements of municipal drawing, every day has been a new step in transforming effort into understanding.

Day 1 – The Beginning

The first day marked the start of something special, setting up the foundation. I explored the basics of AutoCAD, understanding its interface, coordinate system, and essential commands. It felt challenging at first, but every tool I discovered made me more curious to dive in deeper.

Tasks done:

🔹 Revised basic tools and features for drafting.

🔹 Managed to draft a simple floor plan.
🔹 Added extra elements like dimensions, doors, and windows.
🔹 Tried maintaining definite scales and ratios to keep the plan accurate and realistic.

Day 2 – The First Structure

With a bit more confidence, I began shaping my first simple structure. I experimented with outlines and understood how precision is the key to drafting. The process was slow but rewarding  every line started to make sense as part of something bigger.

Tasks done:

I worked on creating a 50m × 60m model footprint. With the help of Google Colab, research, and AI assistance, I explored different approaches for creating digital plan. It wasn’t smooth, I couldn’t fully manage it in Colab, but through test-and-trial, I managed to outline the structure.

🔹Adjustment of a 50m × 60m plan with outlines of houses, parks,and essential infrastructures.

🔹Tried implementing the plan in Google Colab, but realized the limitations of my current approach.

🔹Struggled in maintaining scaling and proportion and permissible gaps between structures, somehow settled it.

Day 3 – Exploring Tutorials and Techniques

This day was all about learning from others. I spent time exploring multiple YouTube tutorials and applying what I learned in practice. Watching others work in real-time gave me clarity on shortcuts, accuracy, and smart working techniques.

Tasks done:

I nearly completed the outline of my colony model

🔸  Developed the main loop road with proper scaling.

🔸 Drafted a top view of structures, trying to match traditional Nepali roof designs.

🔸 Explored tools like Fillet, experimented with line scale thickness, and loaded different types of lines for  clarity.

🔸 Determined the appropriate road width inside the colony.

Day 4 – Beginning the Floor Plan

Today, I stepped into the exciting part , creating the floor plan. I combined the outlines from previous days and began translating ideas into some structured form. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave me a clear direction for the coming days.

Tasks done:

I explored numerous floor plan tutorials and also tried out some inputs on my own, which created below output.

The basics of the 2D view have been done, but there’s still a lot more ahead to complete.

🔸Named previously outlined structure

🔸Started 2D view

🔸Watched multiple tutorials for floor plan rules and guidance

🔸Completed some basics of 2D

Day 5 – Strengthening the Foundation

The fifth day was focused on refining the plan view. I reviewed the previous structure, corrected minor errors, and made necessary alignments. It was a reminder that improvement is not about rushing forward but about revisiting what’s behind.

Tasks done:

I worked on detailing of previous floor plan.

🔸Added all doors, windows, ventilations

🔸Completed slab projection and plinth

🔸Indications/naming with respective dimensions

Day 6 – Elevation Takes Shape

After the plan view came the elevation part,  the true test of patience and accuracy. Drawing projection lines and visualizing structures in space required focus, but once the elevation took shape, it felt like the project had gained life.

Tasks done:

🔸Finished Elevation view

🔸Dealt with lots of projection lines for precision

Day 7 – Section View Exploration

The seventh day brought new challenges. I learned about section views, cutting through a structure to see its internal components. It was complex at first, but tutorials and practice helped me understand beams, ladders, and detailing better.

Tasks done:

🔸Completed Elevation and Section View

🔸Learned to plan and construct ladders and beams

🔸Practiced sectioning techniques

🔸Began hatching and detailing of section.

Day 8 – 3D Beginnings

Curiosity led me into the 3D workspace. I explored commands like extrude, presspull, loft, union, and subtract through a new dimension of creativity. Though the results weren’t perfect, the experience gave me hands on understanding of how 2D transforms into 3D.

Tasks done:

🔹 Explored 3D Workspace & View Styles and learned to navigate and visualize models from various angles

🔹 Used Extrude – gave height and depth to 2D shapes

🔹 Tried Presspull – quickly turned enclosed areas into 3D solids

🔹 Learned Union – merged multiple solids into one complete object

🔹 Practiced Subtract – cut one solid from another to form openings and shapes

🔹 Explored Loft – created smooth transitions between different shapes

🔹 Made a few random 3D blocks to apply and understand these tools better.

Day 9 – The Longest Day

This day tested my patience the most. Following a full 3D tutorial, I tried to model the plan made on Day 1, but it took much longer than expected. Even though the model wasn’t complete or perfect, the day taught me resilience and the importance of steady progress.

Tasks done:

🔹Followed a detailed 3D modeling tutorial.

🔹Practiced Presspull and Extrude commands.

🔹Managed to form a few basic 3D shapes and partial structures.

🔹The ground floor wasn’t completed and the overall output wasn’t perfect, but it helped me understand where I need to improve.

🎯 Takeaway:

I realized that I need to master 2D drafting perfectly first before moving ahead in 3D. So, from now on, I’ll focus on refining my 2D drawings with better tricks, precision, and confidence then later move towards 3D.

Day 10 – Back to 2D with Confidence

Realizing the need for solid fundamentals, I returned to 2D drawings. I started a new outline plan using construction lines and found it easier and cleaner this time. It showed me how much I’d grown since Day 1.

Tasks done:

🔹Began working on the plan view (3)

🔹Drew the outline plan using construction lines.

🔹Found the method smoother and easier to handle

Day 11 – Detailing and Organization

The eleventh day was about organizing and refining. I added doors, created separate blocks, downloaded CAD furniture, and worked on scaling them properly. It was a productive session that helped me see how small details define the whole structure.

Tasks done:

🔸Added and created blocks of all doors

🔸Downloaded furniture and CAD blocks

🔸Worked on scaling and arrangement

🔸Added windows for better detailing

Day 12 – Stepping into Municipal Drawings

With the basics complete, I moved toward municipal drawing,  a more professional and practical application of my learning. I studied the required components, watched tutorials, and understood how these drawings are structured for submission and approval.

Tasks done:

🔸Started municipal drawing journey

🔸Learned key drawing requirements

🔸Drafted a location plan using real map references

Reflection – From Effort to Understanding

Looking back at these 12 days, what began as an exploration has turned into a journey of patience, problem-solving, and growth. Every click, every command, and every retry carried me closer to mastering not just the software, but the discipline of learning itself.

There are still many days left, and with them come new lessons, challenges, and moments of discovery. I’m excited for what’s ahead, a little concerned about what I might not know yet, and honestly, a bit nervous too, but that’s what makes learning beautiful. The journey continues. 🌿
